Shade Tree Diva
41This is a form of poetry I invented. I've got to come up with a name for it soon. Each poem, in order to meet the rules of the form, must be seven lines, with a syllable count of 3,5,7,7,7,5,3. The first and last lines must rhyme, and the middle line (second of the three seven syllables) must rhyme within itself. These poems are mainly meant to capture a moment.
Shade Tree Diva
(Xillus Xavier)
Meadowlark
in the ancient oak
trills a melancholy tune.
Here beneath, I sink my teeth
into a fresh persimmon
as her aria
fills the park.

Simply great, perhaps you could throw a nod to the beats and call it a "Western Haiku". Has that same wonderful meditative quality to it. I think the poem flows nicely as well within the constraints of the form.
